Where did Beneficiary, Documents & Insurance go?

We've reorganized a few account features to make them simpler to manage.

Beneficiary is now called Dead Man's Switch, and along with Documents and Insurance, it has moved to your account menu under your profile picture in the top-right corner.

What changed

  • Beneficiary is now called Dead Man's Switch. It's now managed at the account level instead of the portfolio level, so you only need to set it up once for your entire account.
  • Inside Dead Man's Switch, what used to be called the Beneficiary is now your Emergency Contact, and Trusted Angel is now your Backup Contact.
  • Documents and Insurance have also moved.
  • All three features now live under your profile picture in the top-right corner.

Why we moved it

Most people don't want a different emergency contact for each portfolio. They want one trusted person who has everything they need if something happens to them.

Managing Beneficiary at the portfolio level could split your data and documents across multiple people, with each person receiving only part of the picture. Moving it to the account level ensures that a single Emergency Contact receives a complete archive of your Kubera data and documents, rather than partial information from individual portfolios.

How Dead Man's Switch works

If Kubera doesn't detect any activity on your account for an extended period, we'll first send you a Life Beat Check email asking you to confirm you're okay.

If we don't receive a response, we'll email your Emergency Contact a link to download a ZIP archive containing your Kubera data and documents. If you've configured a Backup Contact, they'll be notified as well.

Where to find it

  1. Click your profile picture in the top-right corner.
  2. You'll find Dead Man's Switch, Documents, and Insurance in the menu.
  3. Select the feature you need and continue where you left off.

What happens to my existing Beneficiary?

  • If all your portfolios used the same Beneficiary, we'll automatically migrate that person to your account-level Emergency Contact. No changes are required, but we recommend opening Dead Man's Switch to review the migrated details and make sure everything looks correct.
  • If different portfolios had different Beneficiaries, you'll be asked to choose a single Emergency Contact for your account. Dead Man's Switch now uses one contact for your entire account so they'll receive a complete archive of all your Kubera data and documents if it's ever needed.

FAQ

Can I still set a different Emergency Contact for each portfolio?

No. Dead Man's Switch now applies to your entire Kubera account rather than individual portfolios.

What is a Life Beat Check?

A Life Beat Check is the email Kubera sends if your account has been inactive for an extended period. It gives you an opportunity to confirm you're okay before we contact your Emergency Contact.

Do I need to do anything?

We recommend opening Dead Man's Switch after the update to review your settings.

If the same Beneficiary was used across all your portfolios, your information will be migrated automatically. Simply verify that your Emergency Contact and Backup Contact details are correct.

If you previously had different Beneficiaries on different portfolios, you'll need to choose a single Emergency Contact for your account.
