How to add Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) in Kubera?
Users signed up with their Google Account
The simplest and quickest way to sign up to Kubera is by using your Google ID. If you already have Two-factor authentication (2FA) set for your Google account, you are all set.
Accounts with Kubera Username & Password
If you have signed up by creating a Kubera username and password, it's recommended that you enable 2FA for your account. Go to Settings > Security > Two-Factor Authentication and follow the instructions to set it up.
2FA adds an extra layer of security for your Kubera account. Instead of only entering a password to log in, you’ll also enter a code (OTP) you typically receive on your phone. So, even if someone steals your password, they won't be able to access your account unless they also get hold of your phone and enter the OTP.
There are usually two methods to get your OTP - SMS or by using an TOTP Authenticator app like Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, Authy etc.
Kubera only supports TOTP Authenticator
Even though SMS is the most popular method, it's not the most safest and reliable method. TOTP authenticator apps are more secure than SMS. They generate OTPs using a secret key that is stored on your device. This means that hackers cannot intercept or steal your OTPs. TOTP authenticator apps are also more reliable than SMS. They do not rely on the cellular network, so they will work even if you do not have a signal.
Backup Codes
After you finish setting up two-factor authentication, please download the backup codes and store them in a safe place. If you lose your phone or no longer have access to it, you can use the backup code to reset two-factor authentication and sign in to your account. Once you have signed in, you will have to set up two-factor authentication again and download a new backup code.
